CMS has Officially Set a New ICD-10 Implementation Date

As of July 31, 2014, CMS announced the implementation date for ICD10 will be October 1, 2015. Your guidance from the Final Rule is to continue using ICD-9 through September 30, 2015. The reason for the rule was the passing of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, which included one statement that ICD-10 could not be implemented before October 1, 2015. One of the things left off in this Act was an implementation date and because of this, CMS skipped the proposed rule comment period step in an effort to quickly set a new official implementation date. CMS wanted to help lessen the costs and burdens that delaying the implementation date caused. To view the Final Rule please see
