Are you ready for Home Care in 2013?

Now that we have finished celebrating the New Year, it is crucial that home health agencies are prepared for all the changes that have come with 2013.

1. The OASIS-C guidance manual was updated in December to include changes and clarifications.  The manual can be accessed at OASIS-C guidance manual.

2. The Home Health PPS final rule was released in November, 2012.  This rule includes changes to reimbursement rates, restriction to OASIS item M1024, new home health survey requirements and sanctions and changes to therapy coverage and reassessments. The a copy of the rule can be accessed at HHPPS final rule.

3. The Office of the Inspector General has included home care and hospice focus items in the work plan for 2013.  This plan will focus on compliance with many existing regulations including face to face, background checks, follow-up on surveys and patient complaints, OASIS data regulations, general COPs, supportive documentation, coverage requirements and appropriate levels of care.  A copy of the plan can be found at OIG 2013 Work Plan.

Until next time,
